Setting The Table Cinco Style!

Setting the table is always fun when your getting ready for some family, friends and fun. I get the love of dishes from my mother. A couple of years ago I found some Laurie Gates dishes at Costco and fell in love with them. In fact, I loved them so much I had to get a teacher friend to get me another set so that I had two. Right now my local Costco has a new set at a very reasonable price. What I love about many of these sets is that they are affordable, unbreakable and just beautiful on the table. You set the table with these and it is almost like an instant party. All the sets you see here remind me of a fiesta! I think so many of the designs are just perfect for Cinco de Mayo celebrations. Additionally, if you changed the accessories used with these they would also be perfect for Mother's day too!



DIY Candle Holder!

OM~gosh... When I saw these on the internet I knew I had to give this a try. These are so simple to make that I am now dashing around the house trying to find something to glue tissue paper to. They made these for Mother's Day but when I look at these I can only think of a Cinco de Mayo table setting. It looks simple and all you need is a candle holder, glue, water, a paintbrush and a Sharpie. I might even be inspired to make a few of these for some gifts!

DIY Cinco Fun!

Setting the table can be a lot more fun when you have some fun stuff to do it with. As I was shopping for some supplies, I came across these tiny doll hats and they looked like mini sombreros to me. I was able to find some pom poms to add to it to make it look like a sombrero. I hot glued each item to the sombrero before hot gluing it to an old napkin ring I had on hand. While I was shopping, I ran across lots of bandannas in tons of fiesta colors. Bandannas make great napkins and you can't beat the price. I found mine at Hobby Lobby for just a dollar.

FIESTA!

With the end of April fast approaching, I am starting to think about the beginning of May. This time of year always reminds me of celebrations and thoughts of sweet summertime just around the corner. It has become an annual ritual at my house to get a little festive around the house and consider a fiesta or two right around the beginning of May.

As I was getting my things together and setting the table, I remembered that I had seen this bandanna table runner that I wanted to make for my dining room table. It seems simple and easy to do. I loved the idea because it was also affordable and there are no sew directions.

And since I wanted to get so crafty and make a table runner, I thought I might as well have some fun and create something else for the table too! And now for the best part. You are so busy and all you really want to do is get a little crafty but you have to serve dinner. I have a quick and easy recipe for you to try.

The Busy Teacher Crock Pot Shredded Chicken

4-5 Frozen boneless, skinless chicken breasts

2 cans of chicken broth

1 can of Rotel

Seasonings of your choice

Water as needed

Put your chicken breasts in the crock pot and add all other ingredients. Add enough water to cover the chicken. Cook for several hours on high. When ready to serve, shred the chicken with a fork and knife and remove from liquid or shred and serve with a slotted spoon. Serve with warm tortillas and condiments of your choice. This is a super easy, super healthy chicken filler for soft tacos or enchiladas and so much more. But the best part is that this can be cooking while you are busy doing something else... so you gotta love that!
